I wanted to tell you all about my Birthday stay at The Ampersand Hotel South Kensington.
The weather at the end of February and into March hit the whole of the Uk with a blanket of snow, and London for the first time in years was hit hard! Its funny but the last time I remembered heavy snow on my Birthday was when I was ten, seeing that amount of snow in London was so exciting! Though as it’s London even then the city had it all under control and I and all my friends and family made it to my “Mr Wimpy” Birthday Party!
My partner in crime which is my adorable mum and I decided we just wanted a short break indulging in some shopping and looking around, we were at first going to be going to Bicester Village, but due to the weather we amended our plans and went to London instead! I will get to Bicester at some point this year!
I found this beautiful 5 Star Boutique hotel call the Ampersand in South Kensington. It really intrigued me, as I loved what I could see of the decor, and I have never stayed in a boutique hotel so I was really looking forward to trying something new.
We arrived at the hotel where a lovely gentleman took our case and opened the door welcoming us, followed by a lady holding the next layer of doors open and being so welcoming, to the bright and bubbly Manager welcoming us to the hotel in the beautiful and striking marble reception he smoothly checked us in, we were blown away at how welcome we were made to feel, and how genuine and happy all the staff were. they came across as a very close family offering a seamless service! Check in was a breeze and we were escorted to our room, which even though is small, is so well set out, beautiful decor, as you can have music, Science and Flower themes! I deal with in my day job with science and I was on holiday so it was nice to entertain my love for music and stay in a music-themed room!
The Bedroom all though small had amazing high ceilings and was set out so well! The beds were close together but it seemed so cosy and inviting, the bed was super comfortable and usually I never sleep well in a hotel room and certainly not in a single bed! I have had single beds that move about the room every time you turn ( that’s another story Strand Palace hotel!) in supposed 4-star hotels! This was heaven and the most comfortable single bed I have ever slept in, and I slept well all night! BLISS!
The bathroom all though compact was also well set out, I loved the decor with the black and white tiles, it was very 1920s and the tiled floor had underfloor heating, as it was so crazy cold outside this was blissful! The bathroom was equipped with all sorts of goodies from a Loofah to soft fluffy towels, slippers and robe and all L’occitane Products! Fabulous! In fact, this whole hotel is #decorgoals
We went out to Fortnum and Mason and Regent Street for the day see my post on My love for Fortnum and Mason
When we returned we were slightly exhausted and freezing, so it was so nice to get back to a cosy room, where sitting on the bed was an adorable plate full of delightful delicacies and written in chocolate “Happy Birthday” This made my day and was such a lovely touch! we had hot showers and dressed for dinner, we spoke to the concierge who guided us down to the restaurant Apero – please see my other post My Birthday Dinner at Aperon London on this.
This was a thoroughly enjoyable and tasty dinner, we decided to head upstairs and have a lovely glass of bubbles in the Dinning room, which can I just say it utterly stunning, quicky, bright, Relaxing and welcoming, it is a room that makes you feel joyful!! We were the only ones in there at this point, I think due to the weather being so bad we were able to explore and get photos without anyone around! During my walk around this Alice and Wonderland room I discovered they had out all these delightful and very tempting cakes and biscuits, thank goodness I was so full from Dinner, but in all my years I have never seen such amazing Meringues! We sat here with the fire on, and enjoyed a lovely glass of pink bubbles! whilst sitting here sipping my drink I noticed the stunning lighting installation that ran up and down the central staircase of the hotel, It is breathtakingly beautiful! It was such a pleasure taking in the wonderful decor and relaxing atmosphere, so nice to do after your dinner. We were very tired so retired back to our room with just the one more glass of Bubbles to get into our PJs, watch some tv and get a good night’s sleep.
The next morning we headed downstairs to the Apero restaurant for a lovely breakfast and cup of coffee, this place is another decorgoals as it has copper accents and its aesthetic to me is just perfect! I am telling you this whole place really is decor inspiration!
Once we had breakfast we did then go and explore the rest of the hotel, we couldn’t see the games room and library as meetings were taking place but we did take in the very well equipped gym, and the fabulous unisex toilets, that all have a different theme and design that matches their name such as Lavender room. The wallpapers, all matched their namesake and can I just say how spotlessly clean it was and how heavenly it smelt.
As you can see this is the communal space with some desktops and can I say the green chair of dreams! I fell in love with this chair, and then these gorgeous Tan leather Pouffes, see what I mean about the Aesthetic!
Sadly we had to head off early as due to the weather and being warned of a heavy deluge of snow which would affect transportation and want to collect my Finleyfoo safely. It was time to say goodbye and head back to Hertfordshire.
The check out was seamless, the staff as before were so helpful, friendly. polite, and great to talk to, nothing is too much trouble. I had the most wonderful birthday, and this has to be one of my favourite hotels I have ever stayed in. The location of this hotel is horizontally opposite South Kensington tube, It has lots of restaurants around it. It is in walking distance to Harrods, Hyde Park, Natural History Museum, what more could you want!
