A couple of days ago a lovely message was sitting in my Instagram account, from my Gorgeous Insta friend the wonderful inspiring Dr Louise Writes. If you have not heard of this before, this award is given by bloggers to bloggers for inspiring creativity and positivity and bringing sunshine to the blogging community. This award means a lot to me, because if I can bring inspiration, positivity and Joy to someone’s life that makes me a happy lady! As we all know life isn’t the box of roses that social media will have us believe, and I do try to keep my life and what I share as real as possible, I even share bad things, messes all sorts because let’s get real, that is real life, it isn’t always picture perfect! I am sure there are people and bloggers out there that would totally disagree with me and think it should be curated and positive all the time, and hats off to them, that’s great but that’s just not me!
I connected with Louise through Instagram Last January, it was so refreshing to find an account full of inspiration, personal stories and images that had no agenda i.e. trying to sell you some juice cleanse, we have all been there haven’t we get the DMs from ladies trying to say how we look like the right person to work in their business and would be great for the brand! Take that whatever way you will! No Dr Louise was not trying to sell me anything, she was encouraging me to live my best self, share and remember experiences I had and make me laugh, feel valued and inspired! Educate me on how anyone can age gracefully and be happy! Life begins at 40, it doesn’t climb on a shelf and get dusty!! Dr Louise is currently writing what I feel will be a real game-changing book for women 40+ but I also think younger women will also want to read it too! Louise has worked with celebrities, experts and a variety of women to create a bible that celebrates us and gives us flight! Dr Louise is also a regular contributor to the online magazine created by Melanie Sykes for the 40+ women called The Frank. Please do check out Louise’s Instagram, Blog : www.drlouisewriting.co.uk and The Magazine The Frank! You can also listen to a fantastic Podcast with Dr Louise, Co founder Melanie Sykes & her agent turned author and dove model Melanie Cantor On Kate Thornton episode of Yahoo’s White Wine Question Time .
As well as Louise nominating me she has also asked I answer these three questions:
- What has been the most surprising thing for you about social media?
- Do you have any secret talents?
- What would you tell your 20 year old self?
- What has been the most surprising thing for you about social media?
This is a very good question, and instantly I thought Confidence and creativity. It has connected me with so many wonderful Ladies & gentleman, some are huge bloggers but not necessarily the ones you may know, some micro bloggers, and some people are just sharing their everyday! And I love them all, as they truly stir my creativity whether it be beautiful photography, a colour scheme, a sophisticated interior, or a giggle over their dog or humorous statement, or them cleaning their kitchen!
- Do you have any secret talents?
I have three secret talents that only my closest friends and mum know about and that is singing and dancing& Swimming! Though I suffer from stage fright when it comes to singing, I would be useless on Xfactor because they would say” are you ready” and my eyes would bulge out my head, I would shake and more than likely a bit of pee would run down my leg! I am that person that before I go on stage I wee all the time, just ask my ex-boss and great friend Andy Robinson ( follow him too https://www.instagram.com/androb001/?hl=enhe is so full of inspiration, he quit the rat race a few years ago to train and become an actor and is currently nominated for his voice-over work, and check out the body transformation too!) when we worked abroad as hotel entertainers! So being wired up and no toilet the performance would no doubt end in disaster, I only just get through it if I am not alone! And by the time I would start to chill out and not shake like I was on a vibrating floor the audience would have left! Oops! “Guess that’s a no then?”
My other secret talent is dancing, I have been dancing since I was in the womb, so my mum says! I had some lessons as a child, ballet, tap but couldn’t get to grips with keeping your bum in, I was taught to salsa in Cuba by the most amazing dancers, whom on many nights I went clubbing with, though I can’t remember it all now! I guess you could say I have the rhythm! I have danced in cages, on stages and clubbed my heart out in my teens and 20s, hence why in my late 20’s I had to have half my cartilage removed so I can’t dance like I used to sadly and my knees kill and crack like an old ladies plus I am a fair few stones heavier (sorry just coughed there)! J
My Third secret talent – Swimming – I used to swim for a club, and compete. I loved it because Pre Disney Ariel, I blame the TV show flipper! I wanted to be and imagined I was a mermaid! I could swim for hours lost in my own imagination under the water! Even now I cannot go anywhere hot without a pool and I could be in it swimming for hours! I used to love going to my swimming club on a Friday night after the 2 hour training was finished we would be split into two teams and race each other, I loved racing the boys and winning, not competing against girls so much, go figure, and had an issue with the gun, not great when you are racing lol! It was the one sport I could eventually whip my dad at much to his disgust and secret joy as he was like a fish!
- What would you tell your 20-year-old self?
This question to me is a double edged sword because we all have regrets, there are always things we would do differently or wished we knew then, but hey life is for living and learning! I think the two things I would say to myself is this: “Don’t give up your dreams & desires for anyone! Value yourself and keep being brave and confident! “I gave up some of my dreams for many reasons, financial, love etc I had my heart broken a few times and made some wrong choices for me which dented my confidence and took away my fight and bravery! I have later on in life changed my dreams and desires, and have got back some of my confidence and evolved, I have also looked back at my life and been proud that any negative I have used it to spur me on, I have got up, dusted myself off and lived to fight another day! So maybe what I should say to my 20-year-old self is “don’t doubt yourself, you will be where you are meant to be and if you are not, you will learn from it and grow and it will lead you to your path, remember some people prefer a B road to the motorway!”
